About the Newsday Crossword
A daily reference for solversThe Newsday Crossword is one of the longest-running daily American crosswords, published every day in Newsday on Long Island and syndicated in newspapers and apps across the United States. The puzzle is edited by Stan Newman, the longtime crossword editor whose “Newsday Saturday Stumper” has earned a cult following among advanced solvers.
The Newsday Crossword runs seven days a week, with a difficulty curve that builds gradually through the week. Monday through Wednesday puzzles are accessible and solver-friendly. Thursday and Friday introduce wordplay-heavy themes and trickier fill. Saturday is the legendary Stumper — a themeless, no-easy-clues challenge that’s widely considered one of the toughest mainstream puzzles in print. Sunday returns to a themed format with a larger grid and more accessible cluing.
This site is an independent answer index. Each day’s puzzle is solved by hand and the verified answers are published shortly after the puzzle releases. Browse by date to see every across and down clue from a given day, or search for a specific clue to jump straight to its answer page. Every clue page includes letter-by-letter analysis, the puzzle context, and a history of every other Newsday puzzle that has used the same clue or answer.
The official puzzle is published daily on the Newsday Games site.
